Words and Pictures

The text I choose to talk about that I have read a lot of was the series The Berenstein Bear books. I read those books all the time when I was younger because that was some of the only books i was ever interested in and they helped me learn how to read when i was younger. When i was younger, along with every other kid, we looked at the pictures first before reading the actual text. Some of the times i would just look at the pictures and turn the page forgetting to read the text because I would just make up my own story as i flipped through the book. My mom would have to remind me to actually read the books text. I loved this series because i loved the house/tree house they lived in. It always looked so cool and I always wanted to live there. I never thought about how much the pictures caught my attention or how much they made me so interested in the text. But now thinking back, the colors and the town they lived in is what pulled me into the books and what made me want to read these specific books. I always went into reading these books thinking I was in their place and lived there and the pictures helped me really get into the story.

  1. I was a fan of the Berenstein Bears series too. Just like you said, I wished I lived in their house too. It's definitely a classic

  2. I also loved that book. When I read a book the first thing I look at is the pictures also, then I begin 2 think about what the story is going to be about before reading it.

  3. I loved the Berenstein Bears Books, I think I have like all of them at home haha. I watched a bunch of episodes of the TV show on On Demand over the summer when I got bored.

  4. I also grew up on the Berenstein Bears books. I remember loving them for their pictures as well. When I got older, I started realizing how moralistic these books were though. I found this odd since I was a very rebellious child and hated overt moral stories. However, I think that the pictures really pulled me into the story so I never really internalized the moral. Good observation, Kelly.
